What is Proposition 8 about?
Proposition 8 is about rewriting the California State Constitution to repeal the basic civil rights of one group of people.
Under California law, the freedom to marry is a fundamental freedom, to which all citizens are entitled. Proposition 8 would fundamentally alter the principles of equal protection in the State’s Constitution by taking away this fundamental freedom from some Californians.
Proposition 8 contradicts the conservative principle of limited government by expanding the state’s regulatory powers to dictate who may or may not marry.
Proposition 8 contradicts the principle of personal responsibility by replacing individual choice with bureaucratic government regulation.
Proposition 8 takes away fundamental freedoms from Californians.
Regardless of how you feel about the issue of marriage equality, no one’s rights and freedoms should be subject to a voter initiative.
